Biography

Dr. Tanja Herklotz is the deputy professor of Public Law with a Focus on Social Welfare and Education Law at the University of Hildesheim (Germany). Previously, she was a postdoctoral researcher at the Chair of Public Law and Comparative Law at Humboldt-University Berlin and coordinator of two projects comparing law and legal cultures in India and Europe. She holds an LLM degree from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), University of London, and a doctoral degree from Humboldt-University Berlin. Her research interests include comparative constitutional law and socio-legal studies. She has worked on the topics of Law and Gender, Law and Religion, and Law and Social Movements, thereby focusing on the region of South Asia. She is a co-editor of the book Mutinies for Equality: Contemporary Developments in Law and Gender in India (CUP 2021). Recently, she co-edited a symposium on Indian Constitutionalism in the Past Decade with Verfassungsblog.
