Sandhya Fuchs

Biography

Sandhya is a social anthropologist, whose work specializes in issues of law, hate and social, memory in India and the British South Asian diaspora. Located at the intersection of anthropology, and critical legal studies, her work analyses the potential of hate crime laws to address structural inequalities and respond to culturally and historically specific experiences of oppression and discrimination. Her current research explores how the flow of hate speech between digital and non-digital spaces  shapes, public affects, legal traditions of interpretation and historical narratives under India’s nationalist government. This work builds on her previous research, which traced the engagement of Dalit communities with India’s 1989 Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Prevention of Atrocities Act
